Jake, also known as Mr. Budder, is the man behind the company. His vision is to provide an easy and wholesome choice for edible creations that are also accessible to a diverse spectrum of medical marijuana patients.
Jake gives us a glimpse of his life as a cannabis entrepreneur:
What was your inspiration for Can O’Budder?
A car ride to San Francisco is all it took. I had been under the weather, so I took a trip up north to get some ideas flowing. I wanted to utilize my skill set to form a business of my own. All the while I was determined to provide something that would benefit people and reach a wide array of cannabis patients with different needs. I remembered the great feeling of making customized edible creations for my friends and family. However, I didn’t want to limit my selection to the same unhealthy treats that you find in dispensaries. I wanted something health-conscious, for those who wanted to enjoy edibles without all the additional fats and sugars. I also wanted something that each patient could control and customize.
My father was a huge inspiration in the upstart of this company. He was a Vietnam Veteran who recently passed away. He called Can O’Budder “the good stuff,” because he was able to take it even once his cancer had prevented him from eating. I want the opportunity to help more people like him.
What did you go before Can O’Budder?
I began working in insurance over five years ago. This was my first hands-on education in sales. Eventually I moved to solar sales, where I was able to learn more about business and marketing first-hand. I quickly became one of the leading salesmen on the team.
Who are the members of your team?
My primary business partner, Megan, is also my life partner. I have an incredible team of professionals, including a graphic designer, a social network manager, public relations supervisor, marketing manager, and more. Everyone on our team shares an equally important role. While a lot of responsibility falls on my shoulders, I am eternally grateful to my reliable, extraordinary team. We keep it moving.
On the challenges of starting a business:
There are so many unexpected twists and turns when you are running your own business. You just have to be ready to work around them… or improvise with them. One of the largest obstacles an entrepreneur can face is his/her own insecurity. That’s why it’s important to have a network of encouraging friends and business partners who can help keep the wheels turning.
“Don’t cut corners. Especially when dealing with any form of medication, it is important to provide customers with safe, top-quality, and reliable products.”
On the future of Can O’Budder:
Can O’Budder will be a household name in the cannabis community. We are in the process of expanding the company’s scope to include an even broader base of customers.
How do you envision the future of the cannabis industry?
In five years, I see the cannabis industry developing into a mainstream, education and artistic venue. I hope for Can O’Budder to become a staple of that movement.
